The problem and the approach

The Fiji Living History Museum is a browser-based 3D experience built with React Three Fiber and Three.js. Visitors walk through six themed rooms — The Grand Hub, The Dig Site, The Chief's Bure, The Crossroads, The Plantation & The Crown, and The Pacific Horizon — each presenting Fiji's story from pre-contact settlement through colonial rule to independence.

The museum includes a fully rendered reading room that works without JavaScript and an arrival screen embedding the live Fiji 3D topographic map. Every historical claim is stored with a verification status and source citation; nothing is presented as fact until reviewed.

What has been produced

  • Live at fijihistory.com with six 360-degree panoramic rooms, reading room and 3D virtual tour.
  • SEO package shipped — robots.txt, sitemap.xml and Open Graph metadata deployed.
  • Arrival page embeds the live Fiji 3D topographic map.
  • Performance pass reduced the main JS bundle from 2.5 MB to 18 KB by externalising panorama images.

Documentation can be shared for technical review on request.
